rochester, ny doctor invents bagel slicer

Finger, thumb and hand injuries that result from bagel-slicing accidents are so common that some doctors and emergency rooms have established the blanket term “bagel hand” to describe such a wound.

But if Dennis Moss could put a Brooklyn Bagel Slicer in every kitchen and restaurant in the country, “bagel hand” would become a thing of the past.
The Pittsford physician and entrepreneur has been selling his bagel knife to the food service industry for the past two years, and now he’s in the process of entering the retail market.

Good luck to Dr. Moss in marketing his invention.  This is a ver inspiring story to me.  The Bagel Slicer is not a new invention, but he built upon the weakness of the previous models to create a safer, more marketable device.  Interestingly, I’m currently reading this book related to this concept.  It’s called, Borrowing Brilliance : The Six Steps to Innovation By Building on the Ideas of Others.

Questions I’d like to learn would be, how do you create a prototype exactly?  What is the cost of production?
