i recently joined Sermo, a network for physicians.  but it’s more than a network, it’s also a place to learn.  they have a section to earn CME credits in various topics.  much to my delight, there were topics to earn in Practice Management.

i just took the CME course, Concierge Medicine: The Benefits and Drawbacks of Personal Health Care.  there were lectures by Dr. Steven Knope, one of the pioneers of the Concierge model and author of the first Concierge Medicine book.  they also had Dr. Gordon Moore answer some questions about his views of IMP and Concierge Medicine.  there was also an ethics lecture discussing possible ethical challenges with the take-home point of exacerbating the primary care physician shortage.

concierge medicine consists of two business models : Retainer and Fee for Non Covered Service.  as well as two ways you could embrace the field : Solo vs Franchise.  the course went through pros and cons as well as a beginner’s guide to creating a business plan.  overall, it was a very neat course and took nearly 2 hours to complete.
