Facebook for Physicians = iMedExchange
i joined a social networking site called iMedExchange. it’s been a great way for me to meet new docs and learn how they’ve utilized their medical degrees.
iMedExchange is different from Sermo for several reasons.
- iMedExchange is about fostering a community of docs whereas Sermo has an educational feel to it.
- there is a point system that rewards physicians for participating in the community at iMedExchange
- the design of iMedExchange is similar to Facebook in that there is a news feed, you can see who’s logged in, and there are many groups and forums you can join or participate in.
the platform was created by Tobin Arthur in January 2007. dr. howard luks, an orthopaedic surgeon and dr. krueger, a family medicine physician both serve as medical director and chief medical officer at the company. the company has over 20 staff and over 12,500 members right now.
most of iMedExchange’s financial backing is from physicians around the world! usually, you see financial backing from VC, angels, etc. but i think it’s pretty neat that physicians are the supporters in this case. if i was rich, i’d invest too. because i really believe this platform is going places.
